Tootsie

SYNOPSIS

Based on the film Tootsie, the musical comedy Tootsie tells the story of Michael Dorsey, a brilliant but impossible-to-direct actor. His talent is undeniable… and so is his temperament. After being fired from every casting in town, Michael concludes that nobody wants to work with him.
Desperate to land a role and prove he still has something to say on stage, he decides to audition disguised as a woman under the name Dorothy Michaels. Against all odds, he not only lands the lead role in a popular Broadway musical sitcom, but Dorothy quickly becomes a media phenomenon and an unexpected symbol of empowerment.
The problem is that maintaining a double identity becomes increasingly complicated: Michael falls in love with his co-star Julie, while Dorothy begins to win the admiration—and affection—of everyone around her.
Trapped between success and the lie, Michael will have to decide how far he is willing to go to fulfill his dream… and what it truly means to be yourself.
A high-speed musical comedy that combines show business satire, romance, and intelligent humor to talk about identity, ambition, and how difficult—yet necessary—it is to walk in someone else’s shoes.

“Ivan Labanda and Ricky Mata: a sense of comedy and TALENT that transcends the stage. When it’s Labanda’s turn to sing, he proves he has one of the warmest and most elegant voices on our scene.”

DESDE MI BUTACA

“Ivan Labanda: an irresistible protagonist. He builds Dorothy with tenderness, humor, and a naturalness that conquers from the first minute. His vocal work is worth mentioning: maintaining the high register of the female character without losing expressiveness or energy cannot be easy, yet he achieves it with admirable ease.”

“Nothing can be said about Ivan Labanda that hasn’t been said before. His name on a poster is a seal of quality for the viewer.”

Diari de Barcelona

Genius accompanies him in the continuous changes of personality and skin. That’s where Ivan Labanda’s solid acting experience shows.”

“Ivan Labanda endows his character with the frustration and comedy necessary to entertain and make the audience reflect on how hard it is to succeed in theatre…”

THEATRE AND TONIC

“Ivan Labanda and Diana Roig repeat as the leading couple—they already were in Singin’ in the Rain—and both shine.”
